About the author

Hi, I’m Charlie Zank, an architect and building consultant living the dream in Portland, Maine! Ever since I was a child, I have had an insatiable curiosity about everything related to construction and design. Now, with more than 15 years of experience in this field, I can proudly say that I have quite a lot of knowledge in this industry.

My clients often tell me that I have a talent for taking complex concepts and making them easy to understand. You could say that I’m like Bob Ross in architecture, even if and especially if it’s a crazy project or idea. My attention to detail is so polished that sometimes I have to remind myself not to be so pedantic!

Over the years I have had the pleasure of working with some of the biggest names in the business, which has given me a wealth of knowledge and experience. My work has been recognized by some of the most prestigious industry associations and I won’t lie – it’s pretty cool.

When I’m not busy creating another masterpiece, you can usually find me walking in the fresh air or curled up with a good book on architecture and construction. I am a lifelong learner and I believe that staying up to date with the latest trends and technologies is essential to providing the best possible service to my clients.

In general, I’m just a guy who loves architecture and construction, and I’m lucky enough to call it my profession. I pride myself on being a trusted advisor to my clients and always happy to help simplify even the most complex concepts.

Studied in the Architecture Program at California Polytechnic State University (**)  and it was there where I discovered my passion for design and construction. I remember being in awe of the grand structures on campus and spending hours studying their details and features. During my time at university, I was fortunate enough to work on several projects with my professors, gaining valuable hands-on experience and developing my skills. It was a challenging but rewarding experience that prepared me well for my future career in architecture and construction.

The architecture program at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) offers a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The program focuses on the integration of architectural theory and design with technical skills, preparing students to become licensed architects upon graduation.

In addition to the B.Arch. program, Cal Poly also offers a Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) degree program for students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree in architecture or a related field. The M.Arch. program is accredited by the NAAB and offers a two-year track for students with a B.Arch. degree and a three-year track for students with a non-architecture undergraduate degree.
